Alderswythe used to be a seasonal fishermen’s village. During summer season, Gaelic fishermen from the west turned up on the shores and built their sheds for the season. Clashes with local shepherds and farmers about land use disputes happened occasionally. The progressive industrialisation of the fishing industry and the establishment of the Alderswythe Borough caused an end to Gaelic ownership of the region and a few farming families permanently settled along the shore. Alderswythe is expected to become an important industrial centre.
