Staithes was founded in 1886. The region was once covered in a large birch forest, which was heavily exploited for fire wood and building material during medieval times. In the 1870’s, the idea to connect Pt. Arlington with Pilegron came up, and a path was laid to begin the construction of rail line. This soon proved to be too costly and after only a few weeks, the rail line was cancelled. The initial idea to found a new borough just north of the old wharf already came up in the late 1880‘s. The need for workers housing was dire. Yet, as the Abyssinian-Wharf started developing, the initiative to build a university for Inverportshire was widely accepted. The new borough would soon become a popular area for the educated elite working and doing research at the new Rhythoria University. Staithes is known for its art-nouveau houses, its shops and art galleries and for its observatory at Keeler‘s Hill. Its very green area and its art scene is no secret. Staithes is also quite popular with the gay community for it was known for its hidden cruising spots, especially in the east at Venus Lake.
