The
Shepton Borough Council has announced an ambitious plan to transform a stretch of land running alongside the Union Canal into a vibrant green space. Called the
Shepton Green Corridor Project, it aims to enhance biodiversity, improve air quality, and provide residents with a tranquil escape from urban life. The corridor will feature walking paths, community gardens, and native plant species.
This project comes at a time when
Shepton is experiencing rapid growth and development. The arrival of the railway in 1854 transformed
Shepton from a quiet farming village into a bustling suburb. While this growth has brought many benefits, it has also put pressure on green spaces and natural habitats.
The
Shepton Green Corridor Project aims to address these challenges by creating a linear park that connects different parts of the borough. The corridor will provide opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and wildlife viewing. It is hoped that the project will not only improve the quality of life for residents but also attract new businesses and investment to the area.
