Elim Iles is a small archipelago north of Connemara. The islands were often nicknamed “Pilegron’s ship graveyard”. About 30 ships stranded on the sandbanks surrounding the islands. In 1897, Inverportshire claimed the islands, hoping to eatablish a new fishing port to exploit the deep waters and to feed the city’s growing hunger.
